Known as an orchestra leader, arranger, piano player, and jazz pioneer, Luis Russell’s first love was songwriting and composing. This master class will trace the impact of Luis Russell’s compositions from 1926 through the present, including “Come Back Sweet Papa,” “Call Of The Freaks,” “Louisiana Swing,” “At The Swing Cats Ball,” and “Back O’ Town Blues,” demonstrating the value of copyrights and the mechanics of how music publishing works.
